Chalk Paths above Worthing

Landscapes, Original embroidery

£195.00

Original embroidery of the view looking over Worthing from the chalk track from Cissbury Ring, West Sussex.

Piece is worked over natural fabrics - calico and silk noil, which are layered and then painted before being free machine embroidered in natural rayon threads.

The view itself is a favourite spot on the chalk path returning home from the ancient ramparts of the Iron Age fort at Cissbury Ring. Worthing itself can been seen in the distance backed by the sea making a faint darker line along the horizon. I love the kink in the track at this point leading the eye to an old bent and windswept tree promising further views just around the bend.

The piece was inspired by the works of Eric Ravilious. I love his portraits of the South Downs with their quiet palette of colours and his "stripey" brushstrokes. Both aspects lend themselves well to free machine embroidery, which is basically painting with a single thin line of thread and so this is my nod to his style.

Supplied mounted and framed without glass so you can see and touch the detail in the stitching
