I am a textile artist inspired by nature and light and a desire to preserve precious memories of landscapes and special locations. I want to hold that special moment when you stop and say "wow", that shaft of light, that splash of colour or the angle of a line of trees wrapping around an ancient cottage. Brief moments giving much joy and living long in memory, with the final embroidery as a happy reminder for your home.
My artwork is created in paint and thread using my trusty ancient Bernina to embroider over layered and painted natural textiles - silks, calicos and found scraps. I build up layers of fabric for texture, then paint using gorgeous French fabric paints in soft colours and finally add detail and more texture with free motion embroidery and rayon threads. The result is a calm and atmospheric embroidery of a favourite view.
Based in Sussex, much of my work is inspired by the rolling hills of the South Downs and the light of the Sussex coast, but I equally enjoy capturing your personal memory of any place or landscape to commemorate a special event or preserve a precious view.
I am a resident artist at Seasons Gallery, part of the East Beach Studios collective at Worthing and have exhibited at Ramster at the bienniel Taxtile and Embroidery Exhibitions since 2017. My work is also found at the Barn Emporium at Durleighmarsh Farm, Rogate, near Petersfield and at the Bosham Walk Art & Craft Centre at Bosham, West Sussex.
With an environmental background I believe in treading the earth gently and try to make my eco footprint as light as possible in my practice.
