Old way to Chanctonbury
The old way to Chanctonbury
Standing in this field below Chanctonbury Ring in West Sussex, I just loved the way one could pick out the course of the footpath wending its way through the fields and trees and up to the Ring itself. The old finger post marked the start and one could pick out a few gates and stiles in the distance. It felt as though I was walking in the footsteps of the generations before who must have trodden this path for centuries. The harvest was underway in the field immediately in front of me, but at that moment all was quiet, waiting for the combine to return.
The piece is worked on calico, with texture added with silk noil, bandage and even dishcloth, before painting and then stitching.
