Arundel Castle across the watermeadows
This view of Arundel Castle is much loved and one that I frequently see driving into the town. It’s constantly changing with the season and weather, but always inspiring, whether the castle is half shrouded in fog, the water meadows are flooded or the river festooned with colourful boats in high summer. It’s a view that seems to hark back to another age and so I have tried to capture the feel of an old coloured etching, using greens and golds to highlight the trees worked over dark background stitching.
The piece is worked on calico, with texture added with silk noil, bandage and even dishcloth, before painting and then stitching.
